I'm oddly drawn to this bizarre cotton "Miss Marc Katie" tote from Marc Jacobs.

It's just so strange, yet weirdly appealing. Marc took a bright leather and canvas tote with cheerful turquoise accents and then slapped a spooky little girl on it. With a zipper mouth. Rather unsettling and distinctly unlike everything else he's done before, but it's a really interesting piece and a bargain at $268.

Be & D Leather Crawford Hobo

I wasn't quite sure if I like Louis Vuitton's line of perforated Monogram Canvas at first, but certain pieces are really quite fun. Pockets of color peek through and add a rather alluring element to the bag. The cute but useless lock on the side of the pochette is just enough hardware to justify the price tag.

Marc Jacobs' Perforated Leather Brigitte has already been seen toted all over town by bag diva Jessica Simpson. I just love this bag, it's so elegant and the shape is a classic. Obviously, Marc borrowed freely from the LV Speedy here, but since it's so very lovely, he gets a pass on this one.

The Perforated Suede Flap Bag and Thong Sandal make yet another unbeatable duo from the great Jimmy Choo. The shape of this bag is instantly recognizable but the radiating diamond pattern with the metallic gold underlay is a fresh new take. This combo is just delicious, and underscores my belief that you can't go wrong with the Choo.

My absolute favorite of the perforated purse parade would have to be the New Boogie Calfskin Bag from Celine. I love the refined femininity of it. It's an iconic shape updated with a delicate swirl pattern, it's simply stunning and perfect for spring.

How do you make a bag more fabulous than the Lizard Paddington?

You make it in CROCODILE. Words cannot describe how I love this bag. Some of that trademark slouchiness has been sacrificed, but it's much more formal and elegant in this luxe skin. This heartstopping arm candy rings in at a staggering $12,880 and is available for pre-order now.

If you don't have the twelve grand handy, you can always make due with the $1,695 large metallic Paddington, which is in stock now. I do like it, but it kind of reminds me of the tinfoil swans encasing leftover ribs at the local Tony Roma's.

On the other hand, I find this gold Paddington satchel to be just divine. It's a fantastic size and shape, and surprisingly understated despite the color. This gorgeous bag is on pre-order now for $1,825.

This is the kind of bag Barbie and Elle Woods would get into a screaming, hair-pulling catfight over. That said, I love it. The Bedford in particular is a very showy bag, eye-catching and extremely impractical. The dang thing actually rolls all over the place and it's hard to get into due to the stiffness of the patent leather, but it's actually a classic Vuitton shape and can be quite elegant if paired with the right outfit.

B. Fendi Linen with Patent Leather Small Bag

I find it to be much more elegant and subtle than the other styles- the single, oversized buckle seems quite understated in comparison. The combination of the demure linen and black patent leather trim is striking and has a distinct mod feel. The Maria Pino Western Bag looks as if someone had taken a Birkin knockoff and coated it with 5 pounds of ugly. Snakeskin embossed leather, floral print and floral appliqué, faux gemstones, crocheted blossoms, and straw are all jumbled together in a horrifying mess. The most appalling thing about this garish thing is it's $795 price tag. With all that junk on it, maybe they're probably charging by weight.

Juicy Couture has had its share of hits and misses, but I'm having a little difficulty deciding which category this terry bowler lands in.

Now, I'm well aware of the fact that this bag is somewhat... lacking in sophistication and, well, taste, but when it comes right down to it, I just have a soft spot for kitsch. A big gold appliquéd palm tree on pink terry has just the right amount of kooky appeal to successfully round out a casual outfit, so long as that outfit isn't a velour tracksuit. Louis Vuitton's Monogram Multicolore collection fell prey first, and now Burberry is the unfortunate victim. The iconic plaid has mutated into a muddled pastel mess, and the heart charm, scalloped trim, and chain strap just adds to the mishmash of ugly. At $165, it doesn't even qualify for a cheap knockoff.

Isabella Fiore and I have had a rather tumultuous relationship, in which I have been alternately captivated and repulsed by their designs, but this fire engine red number is solidly in the "love it" category.

Alexis Hudson French Braid Bag

Despite the fact that it looks suspiciously "inspired by" Chloe's Python Doctor's Bag, I am quite drawn to the French Braid Bag from Alexis Hudson.

Somehow the silver snakeskin-embossed leather manages to look rather understated here. The braided leather double handles play off the texture of the leather quite well. It looks like the kind of bag that would look equally good out on the town or being knocked around while shopping in a pair of jeans. I know. I'm as shocked as you are.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like this bag is the second coming or anything, and the kinks in the strap in the first pic do call into the question the quality of the leather, but it looks pretty cute on. It is a good size, a versatile neutral color, embellished with applique and grommets, and fairly priced at $153.95. Most importantly, the label is on the inside, so know one will know who made it but you.

Black crocodile is woven over a beige mesh underlay, and the effect is edgy yet polished. I love the concept and look of it, but I'd constantly be afraid of catching it on something and snapping one of the strips. With a $1,780 price tag, that's one accident I can't afford to have. Kaleidoscope Flower Velvet Hobo

Though I was initially drawn to the beautiful color, it's really the plush velvet and relaxed shape that cinch the deal. It's similar to the simple, yet lovely velvet shoulder bag by Lauren Merkin, but accents like the leather flower appliqué and the tassels give it a character all its own. It has a zip top, a front slit pocket, and is lined in cotton. The hydro blue (pictured) is by far my favorite, but the bag is also available in grain (tan) and black for $278.

Something about the rounded body and perforated trim reminds me of the saddle shoes I had to wear to school when I was little. Thankfully, this bag looks much more comfortable and stylish. It's composed of goatskin, lizard-embossed calfskin trim, bronze-toned hardware and lined with polka dot cotton. As usual, the "cheap" is misleading- this bag will set you back $945.

While I'm sure the 13-and-under set are delighted to see more candy-colored handbags, I think a grown woman would have a hard time pulling one off with a straight face.

I usually find the bags in Coach's Signature line a bit boring, but when I laid eyes on the ladylike Metallic Signature Satchel, I was instantly hooked.

It's got a wonderful structured shape, and the gunmetal trim against the black signature fabric is very striking. There are a ton of pockets- one on the front, two on the sides, and a zip and cell pocket on the interior. This is a definitely handbag that would easily transition from the office to all the fun events after. To raise the girly factor, tie a skinny scarf or a Twilly in a bow around one of the handles, and you've got an instant pop of color. It's available in the Black/Gunmetal shown and also in Khaki/Bronze for $438.

Mulberry Autumn Winter 2005 Collection

I'm a little late getting on the Mulberry love train, but now that I've checked out their handbag line, I understand why their bags have been getting so much attention recently.

The Tyler is simple and elegant, showing off the quality of the leather and craftsmanship. The curving lines and buckle details give this bag a bit of flair without making it too trendy- this is a bag that will stay chic for ages. I love this yummy Apple color, but it's also available in Chocolate, Oak, and Pink for £395.

The Phoebe has an equestrian-influenced style, and is simply a gorgeous shoulder bag. It has generous dimensions, a comfortable drop, an internal zip pocket and an outside pocket. It's shown here in lovely Oak, but is also available in Apple, Chocolate, and Pink (currently back ordered.) It rings in at £595.

The petite Prairie has a western feel to it, yet is distinctly feminine. It doesn't look like every other bag out there, and has a great casual appeal. My favorite is this Cocoa/Pink combination, but it also comes in Oak/Chocolate and a funky Multi color mix of pink, blue, green, and brown. It's the cheapest of the bunch at £295.

Who knew hair-calf could look so good with gold beading and rhinestones? The intricate beadwork could have easily fallen into "fussy" territory, but the overall design is clean and elegant. It has two easily accessible hidden pockets on the outside for stowing odds and ends, and inside, it boasts a pen and zip pocket, as well as two cell phone pockets for the ultra-wired gal. But is it really practical? Well, no, probably not. But it is big and beautiful, and that's good enough for me!

Multicolor Lodge GM

As an admitted Louis Vuitton addict, I feel somewhat obligated to announce the arrival of their newest Multicolor bag, the Lodge GM:

Sadly, it's even less appealing in person. I've never been a big fan of the monogram stuff, multicolor or otherwise. The Lodge feels really showy, and yet completely underwhelming at the same time.

On the other hand, the Keepall duffle bag is so over-the-top, slap-you-in-the-face, crazy tacky that it somehow wraps all the way back around to being fabulous. This luggage is so obnoxiously loud that I could never actually pull it off, but have to marvel at the girl that can. It's priced at a rather astounding $2500, but I suppose that's a rather small price to pay for all those brass studs. Obviously, you'd need those to bruise the plebes in coach should they try to touch your bags. Ah, to be rich!

The Convertible has a similar style to the ever-popular Stirrup, but has a flap closure, clasp detail, and an adjustable shoulder strap. I love how the Italian leather gives it a soft, slouchy shape. It's a sizable purse at 16” x 12” x 2”, which is not great for evenings, but excellent for schlepping around all your day-to-day essentials. Mink, patent leather, fabric, lace and pearls all compete for real estate on this disjointed little mess. It's like the Frankenstein of purses- an uber-ugly handbag constructed from the parts of less offensive bags. To me, though, the worst crime is surprisingly not the $2,040 price tag, but the fact that it mixes silver hardware (the chain, clasp and handle rings) with gold (the protective feet.) For shame!

Helen Welsh Oval Ring Hobo

If you like the look of the Balenciaga Day bag, but either can't afford it or are unable elbow your way onto the wait list, you might find the Helen Welsh Oval Ring Hobo to be a reasonable alternative.

I'm okay with it since it's not a complete knockoff- the proportions are different and the handle lacks the distinctive whipstitching. The little stud and buckle details are great, but I do wish they also added a tassel or two to finish it off. Still, it's a pretty great casual bag. You're not going get the softness of the legendary distressed Balenciaga leather, but you'll also be saving about a thousand bucks, so who's complaining?

I took one look at this and BAM! Instant love. Sweeping, curvy lines, velvet trim, interwoven chain straps... If you don't appreciate this bag, then you need to turn in your second X chromosome. It's very feminine, but I like that they didn't go completely overboard and made it a warm beige instead of pink. This bag is part of the Fall Runway collection, and is available at eluxury for $775.

Coach Signature Option Chenille

The lovely textures of chenille and genuine python trim are paired surprisingly well on this girly little piece. Add brass hardware and a sweet suede butterfly accent (at no extra charge, so screw you, Prada) and you've got a fantastic evening bag. It rings in at $398, which is a relative bargain for a piece with python accents. If that's a little too steep, the wristlet version can be had for only $178.

No exact pricing yet, but expect the first two to be a little over a thousand. I think the denim line is growing on me. It's a great casual look and the monogram pattern is not as obnoxious as the standard brown monogram canvas. I also like them better as shoulder or cross-body bags than handbags. My favorite is the Mini Pleaty- probably the most subtle of the bunch, a perfect size for going out, and with a minimum of naked vachetta to worry about soiling.

Vacation daydreams

I must be sorely in need of a vacation, because I'm obsessed with luggage recently. And not just any luggage, mind you. Pink luggage. It seems that by skipping my "I love pink! *Squeee*!!" phase when I was nine, the fixation has come back to haunt me 20 years later, with a vengeance.

Which is why I adore this glossy pink polycarbonate carry-on from Hex. It's super lightweight, has wide-set skate wheels for smooth, stable rolling and most importantly, it's shiny and pink. It comes in 10 colors, including a blindingly bright fuchsia, but this hue is definitely the winner.

I also like these sweet matching travel pieces from Diane Von Furstenberg. The classic duffel look translated into rolling luggage is rather unusual, but it works. The collection is simple and feminine, and the bright pink is a great contrast to the natural suede trim.

When I reach the final stages of my regression to a 9-year old girl, I will be ready to carry the Roxy Bermuda collection. Very exuberant and fun, but not exactly age-appropriate. At least I wouldn't have any trouble finding these puppies in the sea of black Samsonite at LAX.

Well, I'm off to dream of piña coladas and white sand beaches before I have to check back in to the daily grind on Monday. Have a great weekend!

You know how dropped toast always manages to land jelly-side down, thereby picking up whatever unappetizing debris that happens to litter the floor? That's exactly what the Mary Francis De-vine reminded of.

This purse looks like it landed face down on the floor of the World's Kitschiest Flea Market. The coating of detritus is so dense, in fact, that bits are actually hanging off of it, like drunken revelers on a particularly tawdry Mardi Gras float.

Now, to be fair, not all of her handbags look like the result of a weeklong bender and a hot glue gun. I actually kind of like her Martinique bag:

Despite my slavish devotion to sky-high stiletto heels, I have to admit to actually gasping with delight when I first laid eyes on these ballerina slippers from Marc Jacobs:

They are so remarkably sweet and they actually look quite comfortable. Beautiful shoes that don't punish you for walking in them... Sheer genius! These plush velvet cuties feature contrasting grosgrain trim and bow, whipstitched sole, and a sensible 1/4" flat heel. I can already feel my feet breathing with relief.

Paddington Hobo

Sorry for posting two Chloe bags in one week, but I just had to mention the scrumptious Paddington Hobo:

I've always loved the Paddington, but I felt like it looked better as a hand carried bag, as it looked a tad awkward on the shoulder to me. This hobo solves that problem with a single strap with a slightly longer drop, while retaining the elements of the Paddington that made it so popular: gorgeous leather, elongated slouchy shape, and the gigantic signature padlock that gloats "Ha! Valentino Small Jeweled Hobo

Normally I dismiss Valentino bags as kind of boring and matronly, but I really fancy this Small Jeweled Hobo.

The bright, coral satin is quite eye-catching on its own, but the lovely flower appliqués and tonal beading are what make it sublime. It's got an adjustable shoulder strap, inside pocket and satin lining. The only problem I can see about this bag is that the ritzy jewel-trimmed logo plate might be a bit uncomfortable right under your arm, but I suppose sometimes your armpits need to feel pretty too.

I'm aware that this is probably a love-it or hate-it purse, but I am completely charmed by this unusual guinea pig-shaped Wooden Leaf Handbag from Vivre.com:

It's covered with amber glass beads nestled in between an assortment of hand-carved wooden leaves and finished off with a silk shantung lining. The mix of colors and textures on this bag is so warm and appealing, and you're almost guaranteed to be the only gal in the room carrying it. Originality doesn't come cheap, though. Having stumbled across a purse design that people actually like, Fendi is spawning off more versions of the Spy Bag than you can shake a stick at. The results run the gamut from ultra glam to something that looks like it was stitched together by Ma Ingalls on a journey from one homestead to another.

I do love the first two to no end. The velvet one with embroidery and rhinestones is so exquisite that I am almost willing to forgive Fendi for the horror of their Pleated Spy Clutch. And while I am certainly no fan of fur, even I must admit that the "over-the-top luxury" of the mink bag is just mesmerizing.

Sadly, prices range from $2,410 to $9,450(!!), so these bags are strictly for those "money to burn" types. Lucky bastards.

Miss Really Hot Bag

Dolce & Gabbana have labeled this shoulder bag as the "Miss Really Hot Bag," and I have to agree with the name.

It's head turner if I ever saw one. Great elements include the stitching detail, adjustable shoulder strap, and of course the golden cut-out ring design. I love how the cool minty green leather exterior belies the racy leopard-print lining. It is Dolce & Gabbana, after all.

Anais Handbag

Most of the purses that I am drawn to are simple, sensible, and not especially trendy. When one doesn't have endless piles of cash to draw from, one tends to go for purses that are either really cheap or sensible in the long run. This purse from Anthropologie is decidedly neither.

And yet I love it so! It's so frou-frou, fussy and impractical. Suede, feathers, and delicate silk flowers make a lovely mix, but I know myself well enough to recognize that it's just a matter of time before it's transformed into a sad mass of limp plumage and cocktail-stained blossoms.

The pragmatic part of me will have to pass. The other part is trying to think of the perfect outfit to wear with this.

There has been quite a fuss made over Bulga's studded hobo bags, but the odd trapezoidal shape of the purse sort of put me off. The Studded Leather Satchel, on the other hand, is a bag that I consider to be truly swoon-worthy.
